Eclectic Solar Hatha Yoga
The beginning/intermediate Hatha class on Monday evenings is an eclectic collection of Traditional Solar Hatha Yoga, and other styles gathered from a hatha yoga teaching practice of more than 40 years.
Restorative-like Hatha Yoga
As a post-menopausal mom, Ella has toned down her Saturday afternoon class somewhat, focusing on a vigorous warm-up followed by restorative-like poses. Her aim is to create an atmosphere of divine unconditional love for all of her fellow practitioners to bask in, and she attempts to melt stress and self-criticism away with a deep peaceful feeling that “all is forgiven, and all will be well.” Peace, Pax, Namaste. Ella teaches this class on the 2nd, 4th, and occasional 5th Saturdays of the month. This class is on hiatus.
Family Hatha Yoga
Come join us Sunday afternoons for Family Yoga! All ages of children and parents are welcome. We will start off class with some dynamic warm-up activities, and quiet our bodies and minds by the end of class. All levels of experience are welcome for this fun and experiential class! Ella will be teaching, with the assistance of her 12-year old son, Luke. This class is on hiatus.
Ashtanga Hatha Yoga and Yogic Study and Meditation
The Wednesday morning Ashtanga yoga is known as a difficult practice, but beginners can practice it. One of the most important things about Ashtanga yoga is balance. Without balance, you’ll have difficulty with the more advanced moves of Ashtanga yoga. Balance in yoga as a state of mind. Once your mind is balanced, the balancing required for yoga positions comes naturally as a physical manifestation of a balanced mind. This class is on temporary hiatus.
Study and Meditation class meets upstairs on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Enter through the middle front door (6004 Pershing Ave.)
Traditional Hatha Yoga
The beginning/intermediate Wednesday evening class is a traditional Hatha Yoga approach with an emphasis on slowly assuming and then holding a posture while breathing deeply in stillness.
Gentle Fitness Hatha Yoga
Julie’s early Wednesday morning yoga class is a beginning hatha class. Most classes include some Pilates, along with restorative poses and a brief meditation. She uses humor and acceptance coupled with gentle expectations in working with varying ages and ability levels. Julie emphasizes personal strengths to guide students toward stillness, awareness and finding the strength within. This class is on temporary hiatus and will resume in the spring of 2018.
Original Classic Hatha Yoga and Prenatal Hatha Yoga
The intermediate level Friday afternoon class is an Original Classic Hatha Yoga class from the 1970s as was taught in the Yoga Center of St. Louis on Big Bend, the first Yoga Center of St. Louis on South Grand, the Ferguson Yoga Center, and the Aquarian Community Center. All of these centers consolidated into the Solar Yoga Center. Class begins with psychophysical warm-up exercises, and then moves to asanas that include inversions. This class is on temporary hiatus.
The Prenatal Hatha Yoga class is arranged on an individual basis. Please contact Karen at 314.822.9108 to register and schedule a class time.
YogAlign Hatha Yoga
This beginning YogAlign Hatha class is offered Tuesday evenings and Thursdays at noon. Toning from our inner core outwards, we are attentive to the natural curves of the spine, and to balanced alignment. Using self-massage and proprioceptive exercises, we help our bodies remember the pain-free posture we had as children.
Fascia – the connective tissue that stabilizes muscles and organs – receives much attention. We realign our unbalanced adult postural habits and ‘green’ our bodies to function more effectively in daily life.
Yin-focused Hatha Yoga and Informal Meditation
In her Saturday morning class, Mimi teaches a gentle Hatha Yoga class with a focus on Yin Yoga. The poses are held for longer periods of time (3-5 minutes), and connective tissues – joint ligaments and tendons – relax and stretch. This slower pace of Yin complements the more active yoga practices taught at the Solar studio. An informal meditation practice immediately follows this class for those who wish to participate.
Iyengar Hatha Yoga and Spanish Language Iyengar Hatha Yoga
Iyengar strongly influences Monica’s teaching style during her Sunday morning and Friday afternoon intermediate classes. The Sunday class is taught in English and the Friday class is taught in Spanish. She focuses on breathing while holding asanas, and emphasizes toning and building strength in the muscles of the torso.
Restorative/Gentle Hatha Yoga
Sally’s emphasis in class is one of a gentle, oftentimes, restorative nature. Class typically begins with warm-ups, which are followed up with a practice of hatha yoga at a slower, more restorative pace. Sally teaches this class on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. This class is on hiatus.
